From the Desk of Juan Diaz

I want to share something personal—my true CEO real estate backstory, and the long, winding path that shaped who I am today. My journey didn’t begin with privilege, connections, or easy opportunities. It began in East Oakland, CA, where my parents—immigrants from Jalisco, Mexico—worked tirelessly so their children could have a better life.

Growing up, we lived in poverty. I learned early that if I wanted something, I had to work for it. That mindset became the foundation of everything that has brought me to where I am today.

Humble Beginnings: Learning to Hustle Young

Some of my earliest memories involve going out with my grandmother to pick peaches and sell them door-to-door. I was proud when I brought home even $15. That little hustle lit a fire in me.

My father always told me:
“You must work harder than everyone around you. Nobody will give you anything for free.”

That lesson stuck.

As I grew older, I found myself constantly looking for ways to earn extra money. I worked odd jobs, helped neighbors fix things, and later got into the transportation industry. Every setback, every mistake, and every challenge was shaping my future without me realizing it.

Discovering Hard Lessons the Hard Way

One of the stories that permanently changed me happened when I bought my first property in Oakland—an old house built in 1902.

When I walked in, the inspector looked around and said:
“Looks like it’s remodeled.”

I wish that were true.

The moment I removed a piece of trim, I discovered severe termite damage. Walls, studs, framing—entire parts of the house were nothing but dust. Every day brought new surprises. Sirens outside, break-ins inside, and a house that seemed like it would collapse at any moment.

That house almost broke me financially and mentally. But it also became one of the most valuable lessons in my life:

Never buy a property without deep due diligence.
Never trust surface appearances.
Never let hope replace knowledge.

That painful experience became a major part of my CEO real estate backstory. It taught me to investigate thoroughly, question everything, and respect the reality of construction—not just the dream of real estate.

Turning Mistakes Into Momentum

Instead of quitting real estate forever, that loss forced me to level up.

I learned to:

  • Inspect properties with my own eyes

  • Listen closely to contractors

  • Understand the language of construction

  • Analyze neighborhoods and city records

  • Investigate environmental and structural risks

  • Build budgets that protect you from surprises

I learned to slow down, research more, and surround myself with people smarter than me. That shift changed my life.

Becoming a Business Owner

After those early lessons, I started and operated my own transportation company while still studying real estate on the side. Eventually, the real estate opportunities grew bigger than my transportation work.

I founded Pecuniary Investments, buying distressed homes all over the Bay Area. Soon after, I transitioned to larger projects with Equity Track LLC, focusing on construction and redevelopment.

And finally, the vision became clear.

The Birth of Twin Home Buyer

Today, everything I have learned—every mistake, every triumph, every setback—comes together at Twin Home Buyer.

Our business model reflects the lessons life taught me:

  • Treat people with honesty

  • Keep the process simple

  • Be fully transparent

  • Work fast, communicate clearly

  • Find real solutions, not pressure tactics

Nothing about my success came easy. It came from failing forward, staying humble, and refusing to give up.

The Golden Rule That Changed Everything

My grandfather told me something I’ll never forget:

“Show me who you spend time with, and I will show you your future.”

He was right.

The people you surround yourself with either lift you or break you. In real estate—and in life—you must choose wisely. I continue to live by that rule today, and it guides how I hire, how I lead, and how I build relationships.

Final Thoughts: Your Circle Determines Your Success

As you read my CEO real estate backstory, I hope you see not just the successes—but the lessons behind them. The hardships made me stronger. The failures made me wiser. And every person who believed in me helped shape the leader I am today.

Real estate is not just a business for me. It is the vehicle that allowed my family to break generational limitations, build a legacy, and help others do the same.

If you are on your own journey—whether buying, selling, or building a business—remember:

  • Be disciplined.

  • Be curious.

  • Be humble.

  • Do the work others avoid.

  • And always choose your circle wisely.

Thank you for allowing me to share my story.
